Outline: The Book of Ruth
Praise be to the Lord, who this day has not left you without a guardian-redeemer.—Ruth 4:14
The book of Ruth reads almost like a play script. In the first scene, we meet Naomi—a widow who has experienced loss upon loss. She longs for fulfillment and love. Like Naomi, we are creatures of longing. From the moment we are born, we crave connection, significance, safety, security, sustenance, and love.
This month, we pray that this familiar story of Naomi, Ruth, and Boaz will come alive to you in new ways. As each act unfolds, we witness God’s sovereign hand and providential timing, satisfying each of their needs in unexpected ways. Through it all, we see the beautiful thread of God’s hesed love, steadfast and kind. May we learn to trust God to satisfy our deepest longings.
