Lord of Glory

Updated: Jan 6

Daily Devotional: Read 1 Corinthians 2:6–13

When we describe something as “glorious,” we mean it is spectacular and beautifully awe-inspiring. The English word “glory” comes from the French gloire (c. 1200), which means “the splendor of God or Christ.” Jesus is the Lord of Glory, both kingly and divine (Ps. 24:7–10). The Hebrew word for glory signifies brightness, splendor, magnificence, and majesty. This stands in stark contrast to His death on the cross!

Sunbeams pierce through clouds over a city with buildings and mountains in the background, creating a dramatic and serene atmosphere.
Such glory shining down!

Paul tells us that the gospel is a mystery that was once hidden (v. 7). Why is this? If the powers of evil, both human and supernatural, had understood God’s plan, “they would not have crucified the Lord of glory” (v. 8). Since we are saved through Him, we, too, are part of this mystery. The resurrected Christ proved to be truly God. One day, the entire “earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord” (Hab. 2:14).

Our Destiny in Glory

You and I were destined to share Christ’s glory from eternity past (1 Cor. 2:7; Rom. 8:17; 2 Thess. 2:14). The blessings of salvation are so profound that no one has ever seen anything like them. No imagination can reach the heights of what “God has prepared for those who love him” (v. 9). Our eternal future is indeed glorious!

The Spirit's Revelation

The Spirit has revealed what was once hidden and inconceivable: God sent His own Son to become a man, die for the sins of the world, bring in the Gentiles, and make eternal life possible for all who believe (vv. 10–12). We have witnessed this glory! Through the same Spirit, we are empowered to preach the wisdom of the gospel to a foolish world (vv. 6, 13; 1 Cor. 1:20–25).

Reflecting on Glory

What does the word “glory” or “glorious” mean to you? How do these words describe Jesus? Reflect on your personal understanding of glory. How can you embody this concept in your daily life?

Pray with Us

It’s all about You, Jesus. We worship You as the Lord of glory! Remind us never to seek glory for ourselves, but to boldly share the glorious truth of the gospel with everyone who needs to hear it.

Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty.

Conclusion

In our journey of faith, we often encounter moments that challenge our understanding of glory. We see it in the beauty of creation, in acts of kindness, and in the love we share with one another. Each of these reflects the divine glory of God.

As we continue to explore the depths of His glory, let us remember that we are called to reflect this light in our lives. We are called to be vessels of His love and grace.

Let’s embrace this calling. Let’s share the message of hope and salvation with those around us. In doing so, we not only honor God but also fulfill our purpose in this world.

Together, let’s commit to living out our faith boldly. Let’s inspire others to seek the glory of God in their lives. After all, we are all part of this beautiful tapestry of faith, woven together by His love and grace.

May we always strive to be a source of encouragement and inspiration, shining His light in every corner of our lives.
